Four days before the scheduled opening of Lotte World Tower observatory ‘Seoul Sky,’ 39 people were trapped in Seoul Sky's double-deck elevator for 25 minutes, according to Lotte World.
Seoul Sky, S. Korea's highest observation deck located from the 117th to the 123th floor of the country's tallest skyscraper Lotte World Tower in southeastern Seoul, was originally scheduled to open on March 22.
The company said the breakdown was caused by safety sensor failure during a special event for its employees and their families on March 19, 05:15 PM. The elevator suddenly stopped working on the basement floor.
Twenty passengers on the upper deck and two passengers on the lower deck were released after facility management workers forced the door open.
Lotte World said, “We have decided to postpone the official opening of Seoul Sky to April 3.”
