The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP) said on Nov. 18 that Min Won-ki, head of the Office of Planning and Coordination at the MSIP, was elected as chairman of the OECD Committee on Digital Economy Policy (CDEP) during the CDEP’s meeting held on Nov.16-18 in Paris, France. The tenure is five years.
The MSIP said, “Min becomes the first Korean to lead an OECD committee since S. Korea joined the OECD. Our country’s international standing in the ICT sector has been reaffirmed.”
The CDEP discusses the whole spectrum of the digital economy from the IoT and AI to 5G. The CDEP’s agenda makes an impact on OCED member nations’ digital economy policies.
Min wrote on Facebook, “Elected as chair of the OECD Committee on Digital Economy Policy. Looking forward to a new journey with the OECD Member delegations and the Secretariat for finding the best ways to navigate the digital world which is changing with a lightning speed".
Min started his career as a public servant after passing the 31st Senior Civil Service Exam. He headed up the Department of Competition Policy for Telecommunications and the Software Policy Department at the Ministry of Information and Communication and served as a spokesperson for the MSIP. Last year, Min was elected as vice chairman of the CDEP.
