Germany’s Volkswagen Group is likely to recall up to 100,000 vehicles in Korea as part of its worldwide recalls of up to 11 million units, caused by its global emissions cheating scandal.

According to industry sources on October 1, Audi Volkswagen Korea submitted to the Ministry of Environment a detailed report of its domestic sales trend, emissions cheating device and measures to correct the situation, including recall plans.

Volkswagen Group plans to submit measures to correct the situation to the German authorities by October 7 and embark on its recall plans after garnering approval.

Volkswagen Group plans to open websites in various languages to inform all of the owners affected by the defects to have repairs at local service centers. In Korea, the customers concerned are expected to be notified the recall plan by next week.

The number of the Volkswagen vehicles which are suspected of cheating on emission tests is estimated at around 130,000. Although all of them could be subject to recalls, some could be dropped, with the maximum number of recall cases likely to reach around 100,000 units.
